At the Mayo Hospital, Pakistan’s largest public-sector hospital situated in the heart of Lahore, rows of patients burning with fever stare at the ceiling covered by mosquito nets. Javed Iqbal, a patient, manages a shoe factory on the city’s Sheikhupura Road. He says the factory had to be shut down for a week after an outbreak of dengue affected three of his 20 workers. “We fumigated the area but people kept getting sick.”
